hack carpentry and happiness

Jill of all trades, master of none? I can thug my way through a lot of stuff, but that doesn't mean I'm good at it...the right tools would help, but when I have an idea I just want to DO it. Bead storage where I can see the colors has been on my list for ages. I've been using those translucent plastic drawers for ages, but they're not very good at holding heavy loads (yeah, I have a lot of beads)

I built the shelves I've been imagining! The cut edge on the plywood isn't straight and a few of the nails are poking out, but the wee shelves are level and I can see the colors! Now I need to make about (guessing) 3 or 4 more of these to get the whole array out in the open. Magic is afoot!

Vampi, you can do it. Seriously not difficult. I'm pretty sure Home Depot or Lowes has 1/4 sheets of plywood. This is a 2x2 foot piece of 1/4 inch ply with one finished face. Then the little shelves are pieces of 2 inch flat molding with 6 inch pieces of 1x1 inch square molding underneath. I used an electric brad nailer and carpenters glue to stick it all together.

Looking good! Worked like therapy to put the colours in? That is a good idea and inspiring too, to see all the colours.

I know what you mean about the plastic storage not holding up to the weight. That's where a lot of my beads are and eventually everything bows in the middle. Getting to see all the colors you have right in front of you as you work is super.
