Today a customer said "you bought that house? I wanted that house!" She's going to be a neighbor further down the road, I guess her husband decided he wanted to build instead of buy a pre-made home. We did have a discussion (with a 3rd woman) about how it might be necessary to repaint the bruised grape wall mid winter...just too dark.
Opening shift yesterday was tough. I didn't understand the grocery v.s. deli relationship and was feeling sorry for my Cinderella self. See...grocery (where I work) is expected to help deli/coffee at all times, but the reverse isn't true. Today when the same feeling of 'what did I do to YOU' came up, I asked one of the grocery managers and was suddenly enlightened to my status as a "them". Now that I know, I'll proudly wear my 'not in the clique' badge, but ignorance was not bliss!
Today I was at my register, doing some side work bagging bulk flour when the deli manager plopped a price gun down and said it needs to be filled. Uh...where's the tape? "that's a grocery thing, here it is, I don't know how to fill it". Mmm ok. Then behind me to the new deli helper "and how are you holding up, are you doing ok?" Huh?
Last night on weird radio, a discussion of Rankism, like racism, or sexism it's a person of a different rank (higher) putting down a person of a lower rank. Very timely discussion.
